During the first lockdown in 2020, I joined the waiting list for an allotment. In March 2021 I was offered to take one on. Of course I accepted and after lots of back and forth and almost taking on someone else’s allotment (a story for another day) I was the proud owner of plot 19!

I’m fortunate that my husband also enjoys the allotment and we work on it as a team, although we play very different roles! Let’s just say he’s the brawn 💪🏼 and I’m the one with all the gear and no idea. 😂

Having only ever had a small raised bed in my garden previous to owning an allotment, it’s safe to say this was all very new to me. I absorbed every bit of information I could on what to do to by watching YouTube videos, reading books and really trying to plan to the best of my ability. I am hoping that our podcast gives you our listeners some help and advice as we learn together.

I took over an allotment plot in London in March 2021 without having much prior gardening experience or any other experience with plant growth. However, I was able to gradually turn my newly purchased green space into a garden that produced an abundance of produce for my family.

I constantly try to make sure that the food that my family eats hasn't been tainted by artificial fertilisers, pesticides, or herbicides. This is what drew me to allotments since, in my opinion, gardening on one really does allow you to become entirely organic and understand where your food originates from.

I must admit, though, that not everything has gone smoothly; there have been many tears of sweat and blood spent. However, I'm eager to share my knowledge, my successes, and my failures with others. I see it this way: I've already made the mistakes, so you don't have to!
